Historic Horse Racing Bill Advances

LINCOLN -- Arial">A constitutional amendment is slowly moving through the Legislature to allow historic horse racing. You would be able to vote in November of next year on the proposal sponsored by Omaha Senator Scott Lautenbaugh which gives you the opportunity to bet on horse races that have already been run. Supporters say it helps the struggling horse racing industry and saves jobs. Opponents call it another way to expand gambling.  Lawmakers advanced the bill Wednesday to the second round of debate on a 29-19 vote.
