Starting next Monday, it'll be cheaper for you to park in a parking garage than at a downtown meter. Rates double starting March 11th to $1, the first meter rate increase since 1995. You won't have to plug some of those meters because they'll be new solar-powered, programmable "smart meters" capable of accepting credit, debit and pre-paid parking cards, in addition to dollar coins, dimes and quarters. 1,400 of these "smart meters" are being installed around downtown Lincoln starting Wednesday.
