From his campaign headquarters in Omaha, Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Bob Kerrey called for another debate with Republican Deb Fischer before next Tuesday's election. The head of the state's Republican Party was at Kerrey's announcement with an announcement of his own. Mark Fahleson said there's no reason for another debate. Instead, Fahleson wants Kerrey to sign a list of pledges, he said, that reflect the values of Nebraska voters. Kerrey refused. Fischer has been leading in polls up to this point, and still does, but the World-Herald shows Kerrey within 3 percentage points of Fischer.
