WAVERLY -- A major grass fire Sunday afternoon north of Waverly kept firefighters from at least six departments busy for more than three hours. The fire was called in around 4:15pm by someone living in the area of 98th and Raymond Road. Waverly Fire Chief Mike Binder tells KFOR News the winds had pushed the fire into some harvested corn stubble and burned anywhere between 180 to 200 acres of land from 98th and Raymond Road to 112th and Branched Oak Road. It was under control by 7:30pm and Binder says no property damage was reported. No one was hurt and no evacuations were needed. The cause remains under investigation.A large grass fire burns near 98th and Raymond Road Sunday afternoon. (Photo Courtesy of Deidre Stephenson)
