A 33-year-old Lincoln woman has been charged with making false statements to police after she claimed last month that three men broke into her home near 22nd and "E", carved anti-gay slurs into her skin and tried to light her house on fire. Charlie Rogers turned herself in to police around 12:30pm Tuesday, after a judge issued an arrest warrant for her. Police Chief Jim Peschong says Rogers' claims of being attacked by three masked men July 22nd were conflicting with what a forensics pathologist found in evidence from the scene. Samples collected and analyzed by forensics specialists show the DNA found in gloves belonged to Rogers. Pathologists determined the cuts sustained by Rogers were self-inflicted or done intentionally or allowed someone to do them. Rogers, a former Nebraska women's basketball player, outlined her motive for the faked July 22 attack in Facebook postings four days earlier. Peschong says Rogers wrote: "So maybe I'm too idealistic but I believe way deep inside me that we can make things better for everyone. I will be a catalyst. I will do what it takes. I will. Watch me." Rogers was charged Tuesday with making a false police report, after pleading not guilty. She was released on a recognizance bond and scheduled to appear back in court September 14th.
