The Dirty Heads Say "Cabin by the Sea" Was Inspired by a Lullaby

Facebook.com/DirtyHeadsLast month, The Dirty Heads released their first album in four years, Cabin by the Sea.  Co-frontman Jared “Dirty J” Watson says that the album’s title track evolved from something that co-frontman and guitarist Dustin “Duddy B” Bushnell had created for his child.

“Duddy had a guitar part that was a lullaby for his daughter,” Watson tells ABC News Radio.  “He had recorded it and I came into the studio afterwards, kind of came up with this part, from there the song ‘Cabin by the Sea’ came about and then from that song, the whole concept of the album came about.  We’re like, ‘That’s a really cool concept.  This place that we’ll build, this cabin by the sea.’”

Watson added that the band’s hiatus was beneficial for the songwriting process for Cabin by the Sea.  “We usually write a lot of songs and then trim them down,” explains the singer.  “We had so much stuff ready to go ‘cause there was that big span of time and I think we weeded out all the bad ideas very, very early.  So rather than writing and completing 30 songs, we just took I’d say the best 20 ideas and then knocked those down to the best 16 full songs.”

The Dirty Heads are currently out on a North American tour with Matisyahu and Moon Taxi.
