Car Chase Linked To Alleged Check Fraud

LINCOLN -- Details into an alleged check fraud case that led up to a three-vehicle crash Monday afternoon in northeast Lincoln are still under investigation. Public Safety Director Tom Casady says around 1:30pm, a teller at the Union Bank at 70th and Pioneers saw the vehicle fitting the description police were looking for involved in similar incidents. Casady says an officer then saw the SUV. Casady says the pursuit was called off at 70th and Holdrege when the SUV reached excessive speeds. The State Patrol was called in to help locating the vehicle and tracked it down, after it crashed with two other vehicles at 84th and Havelock. Five people were hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries, three of which were in the SUV. No arrests have been made, but Casady says they're not certain if the three suspects are responsible for all of the check fraud cases or not.
