Neb. attorney general's office warns of check scam

LINCOLN -- Bogus letters are being reported from around the country claiming to be from Publishers Clearinghouse's International Lotto Division. Fraudulent cashier's checks drawn on fake accounts from First State Bank Nebraska have been included in hundreds of letters. Bank officials have returned more than 180 counterfeit checks after being deposited in consumer accounts at other institutions. Victims get an official looking letter with a check inside from First State Bank Nebraska. The letter asks for bank information so winnings can be deposited. DON'T FALL FOR IT. Nebraska Attorney General Jon Bruning reminds you NEVER deposit checks from people you don't know, NEVER wire money to someone you don't know, NEVER pay money to receive money and protect your bank information and Social Security numbers.
