Merry Christmas Kelly...from Hoss

Everything Else is Secondary

Everyone said "having a kid will change your life".  Sure... until now I didn't have to change diapers or worry about a feeding schedule; but that's not what they meant.  I now understand the true meaning of "life changing".  I'm sure after you became a parent for a first time the realization hit you like a ton of bricks too -- EVERYTHING ELSE IS SECONDARY! Your child becomes your most important daily concern.

I feel so silly for getting stressed or about things that seem so trivial now. I must have been crazy to waste time on some of the matters that worried me to death. Now my main worries are being a good Mommy and doing everything I can to raise my daughter to be the type of person who cares for others and is capable of making her own way in what has become a tough 'ol world.

Meet my TOP Priority

The "I Dids"
January 10, 2010

My friend Kelley always calls the exchange of vows the "I Dids".  Well, the "I Dids" are done.  The last few weeks have been a whirlwind... SNOW, Christmas, rehearsal, New Year's Eve, Wedding on New Year's Day, SNOW, Honeymoon in Cancun, return home to... SNOW.

I'm posting a few pictures from our big shindig.  You can also visit my facebookpage www.facebook.com/96KXKelly to view A LOT more photos.

Guess I'm the "Old Maid"!

Don't forget to check out the great businesses I had a chance to work with as we planned our wedding.

Petal Creations - Stacy Combs of Petal Creations is THEE BOMB when it comes to beautiful, elegant, dramatic and original floral arrangements and reception decorations. Here's just a few of the photos I had on my camera, though they don't fully describe the scene she designed for the evening.

We are still receiving compliments on the ceremony flowers and reception pieces Petal Creations put together for our celebration.

Ellynne Bridal - Lynn Rustad of Ellynne Bridal is perhaps one of the kindest souls I have ever met.  She has great taste, and puts so much care into making sure that you are cared for when shopping at Ellynne Bridal.  My dress and veil were flawless, thanks to Lynne and her staff.  The dress I selected was not one I would have picked for myself... Lynne suggested it.  I tried it on and knew it was "the one".  http://www.ellynnebridal.com/

Randall's Formal Wear/Tip Top Tux - Dena did a fantastic job fitting all the gentlemen in the wedding with their tuxes.  They were a handsome bunch! The guys had a great experience working with Randall's Formal Wear/Tip Top Tux -- and Dena did a great job keeping me informed as to the progress of tux fittings and pick-ups. http://www.tttux.com/

Jane McComas Photography - Jane is a friend of mine from high school who I reconnected with thanks to Facebook. She is an amazing photographer, who is also very quick witted. That came in handy dealing with our wedding party!  I can't wait to share our wedding photos with you!  http://www.janemccomasphotography.com/

Mark Edward (Private Jeweler) (Omaha) - I'm a lucky girl! For our wedding day, I wore two pieces of jewerly on loan from Mark Edward. A stunning diamond necklace and earrings. Our rings (engagement, my wedding band, and Scott's wedding ring) were purchased from Mark, who has the most AMAZING jewerly I have ever seen.  ...and in all price ranges, so don't be shy about contacting him.  I'd be happy to pass his number along to you.

Max Muscle - I looked and felt great for the wedding, thanks to the products and consulation from the certified nutritionists at Max Muscle. I will be continuing to work my Max Muscle plan. It's nice that the guys at Max Muscle understand the demands of everyday life and are great at designing a plan that works for your lifestyle.  I'll keep you posted as I continue my Max Muscle plan. http://www.maxmusclelincoln.com/

I also recommend:
M&M Cakes & Cupcakes - Everyone commented on how great our cake tasted.  (We're still eating the left overs and enjoying every bite!) Maria Applegarth makes cakes and cupcakes for all occasions.  http://mariascupcakes.blogspot.com/
One More Time bandhttp://www.onemoretimeband.com/
Parker's Smokehouse - We treated our wedding party and families to rehearsal dinner at Parker's Smokehouse. Their party room was perfect... the food and service, fantastic! http://www.parkerssmokehouse.com/
Harris Music Studio - We had a fabulous string quartet for the wedding and reception from Harris Music Studio. Beautiful music and  a pleasure to work with!  http://www.harrismusicstudio.com/
Dillards Bridal Registry - Scott and I have never been treated to better service at a department store than at Dillards.  Linda is our bridal registry representative and she understands the meaning of going above and beyond to please the customer.  Linda emails me when items on our registry go on-sale, alerts us of other specials on items that might be of interest, and in person, she is so pleasant and helpful.

I LOVE The Smell of NEW Leather!
December 2, 2009

My wedding boots arrived today! Yes, I'm wearing boots under my dress. Normally I don't get this excited about boots, but these are special boots... well, special to me! I wanted to wear something unique, that quietly showed off my "cowgirl" side and Texas heritage.  The boots are also in memory of my Granny.  I had told her how I wanted to wear boots under my dress and she had offered to help me find the perfect pair -- a pair from Texas.  Thanks to my cousin, Susie, I still got my boots -- a custom pair of Lucchese boots from Texas!

Things are starting to come together, only because I've choosen to work with some great people!

Petal Creations is handling all the flowers for the ceremony and floral designs at the reception.  Stacy Combs is just amazing to work with! I didn't have a clue what kind of flowers I wanted, but I did know they had to be unique! That's Stacy - unique!  Stacy spent an evening with me going over our wedding colors, details about the event, our personalities and our expectations.  We looked at magazines and pictures of other floral designs she has created, and started to piece together the flowers for the wedding-- first what I would carry; then the bridesmaids, flower girls and rest of the bridal party.  Stacy also has some very cool ideas for the reception centerpieces.  Check out some of her designs - Petal Creations Weddings or the Petal Creations Weddings Facebook Fan page.

It was so hard to decide on a photographer... then I reconnected with a friend from high school on Facebook.  Lucky me - she's a fantastic photographer - Jane McComas Photography. Scott and I met up with Jane at Mahoney State Park on a Saturday to shoot our engagement photos. We had a blast! Scott and I aren't a PDA couple (Public Display of Affection) so it took a little bit for us to relax; but Jane was great helping us get settled in and really captured "who we are" in the photos.  You can see a few of our engagement photos on the Jane McComas Photography Facebook Fan page.

Me & Jane after we wrapped up the engagement photo shoot

Scott, his groomsmen, ushers, candlelighter and our Dads will be wearing tuxes from Randalls Tip Top Tux.  Dena at Randall's made this the EASIEST part of the wedding planning so far! I kinda had an idea of what I wanted when I stopped by to see her, and from my description she helped me piece together a very handsome ensemble for the gentlemen. The guys are in the process of planning a "boys night out" to be fitted for their tuxes. Look out Dena!  If you'd like to get a sneak peek of the tuxes visit Randalls Tip Top Tux. We have selected the dark brown tux which you may view by clicking on the 2009 catalog link on their home page.

I've become all to aware that guys really don't care about the wedding planning. Scott wanted to pick out the food (...and I let him) and that was about it for what he cared about.  Okay, he cared about the seating for the head table but I vetoed his decision - ha!  I did put him in charge of planning our honeymoon, and he's doing a great job piecing together the details for a fantastic trip.

Oh, and for those of you who are wondering if my cat ever got over his spider bite - I'm a little afraid to type this for fear of a relapse but -- YES!!!  Saturday, October 24th our vet gave him a clean bill of health!  The battle we have been waging on this spider bite since June 2 as finally come to an end... though as you'll see from the picture below, Cheez has become accustomed to being pampered pitten.

Bridesmaid Dresses
August 14, 2009

Today I selected my bridemaid dresses from Ellynne Bridal. It is similar to my wedding dress and I think girls who are standing up with me will look just beautiful!  See my bridesmaid dresses HERE!

Scott and I are also trying to decide where to go for our honeymoon. The only stipulation I have is that is must be WARM!  Where did you honeymoon?  Let me know... I need some suggestions.  www.kellyg@kzkx.com

The Dress
August 5, 2009

Last week I ordered my dress from Ellynne Bridal.  I visited the store several times with family and friends, tried on dresses, asked questions, talked with Lynn about my dress "vision", and each visit was always the same - FABULOUS! Lynn and her staff were always friendly, always knowledgeable, always helpful.  The whole experience was STRESS-FREE, which is exactly what I need these days!

See the beautiful dresses at Ellynne Bridal

...and on a side-note:  I'm still pilling cat.  Cheez is still battling, what our vet has now determined to be a spider bite.  One abcess has turned into many, leaving his leg very sore, bruised and just digusting. After several different antibotics, several trips to the vet, and several hundred dollars, I'm not sure if we're even close to seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. He continues to hobble around on three legs, but over the last couple of days we seem to be making some progress as I noticed this morning he was willing to put some weight on it.

7 Months To Go
June 2, 2009

So, I was looking at the calendar yesterday as I was making an vet appointment for one of our cats (he's been sick) and I nearly had a nervous break down.   7 months to go until our wedding day!  I've been procrastinating. I used to be an event planner, so putting together my own wedding should be easy... the problem is, it's not fun, and with summer here, it is easy to find something else to do instead of working on the wedding.  The good news is, I've been taking advantage of the nice days, riding horses and working outside, but as you know those things don't really help plan a wedding.

I did pick out my dress! My Mom, Sister, baby niece, Sister-in-law, a friend and my Fiance's Mom helped me select my dress.  It was a tough decision. I had it narrowed down to three dresses I really liked, each very different.  We had a fun morning at Ellynne Bridal... me trying on dresses and everyone giving their opinion.  In the end, one dress was clearly the favorite of most everyone... now I just need to get it ordered.   After the "dress parade", we went out for lunch at Parker's Rib Ranch.  Did I mention that this is the first time my Mom and Scott's Mom have met???   I know... strange, but true.  I think they both had a nice time chatting about their kids and the wedding.

Now it's on to selecting colors and flowers... and pilling the cat.  Our trip to the vet revealed a 105 degree temperature, a sign of a possible kidney infection. The Cheez has to take pills twice a day -- have you ever pilled a cat?  I'm actually a pro at this, however Cheez is getting wise to my maneuvers.   Wait until he finds out he's getting a hair cut Monday!

Wedding Dress(s)
April 24, 2009

This WILL be the weekend I finally choose my wedding dress (or that's what I'm hoping).  It's been a LONG search... I think I've tried on at least 35 dresses.  I have found 3 dresses that are flattering to my body type (thank's Max Muscle!), and that I feel "good" in, so Saturday my Mom, Sister, Sister-in-law, future mom-in-law and a friend are going to the dress stores with me to help me decide.  By the way... this will be the first time my Mom and my fiance's Mom have met!

Wedding Party/Wedding Dress

 April 8, 2009

Boy time flies! I still have a ton of planning for our wedding.  Right now my biggest battle is trying to get Scott to figure out who he would like to stand up with him.  He keeps saying “We have plenty of time  - Uh, Hello!  As aforementioned, TIME FLIES!

I’ve done a little dress shopping, but haven’t found “the dress” yet.  I’m continuing my search over the next few days with the help of my friends Andrea and Chandra. The good news is I feel a lot better about trying on dresses thanks to

MAX MUSCLE! I just had a follow-up with Steve at Max Muscle yesterday and I'm just so excited about my progess - I’ve lost 4 lb., and decreased my body fat percentage by a little over 7%!  I can certainly tell that my body is changing (fat to muscle - remember muscle weighs more than fat).  My pants fit looser in the legs and waist, I'm also getting some definition in my arms and over all I just feel really good!  When I donated blood last week at the Nebraska Community Blood Bank, they even commented how good my iron levels were (normally I have very low iron), and I had a significant decrease in my blood pressure.

Last Saturday I attended the Barrister’s Ball in

Omaha with Scott (my fiance).  We had a great time with Scott's co-workers and guests, including Mark Edward (of Mark Edward Private Jewelers).  Mark was so kind to help Scott with my engagement ring.  Scott didn’t have a clue as to what I would want, but with Mark’s expertise and intuition, I really did get the ring I had dreamed of. If you are jewelry shopping, Mark is the man to talk too!  Tell him I sent you!

I’ve Gotta Look Great for My Wedding Date

February 26, 2009

Wedding plans have been going a little slow.  I’m currently in the process of looking for a photographer and making a comparison sheet to help make the selection process a little easier.

The one thing I did get done last week was to start on my “Look Great for My Wedding Date” fitness/weight loss plan.  I was talking to my friend, Bonnie, about how I’d like to lose a few pounds and tone up before the big day, but I wasn’t making much progress on my own. She suggested I talk to Chad at MAX MUSCLE.  I know… you’re thinking what I was thinking… that Max Muscle is just for guys who are body builders and athletes who want to bulk up.   Wow, was I wrong!

Chad from Max Muscle set up a meeting for me with Steve, who is one of the Certified Nutritionists at Max Muscle.  Let me just say, my meeting with Steve was a real eye-opener as to what Max Muscle can do, not only for athletes, but also for someone like me who just wants to improve my eating habits, lose weight and tone up.

After filling out some simple paperwork about my health/meds, Steve and I discussed my daily routine, eating habits and expectations.  Steve also weighed me and calculated my BMI (Body Mass Index).  From the information Steve collected, he tailored made a meal and workout plan specifically for me, combined with Max Muscle products that will insure I am getting the vitamins, nutrients and energy I need.   He printed out the plans for me, put them in a handy binder, and went over the products I would be using and their functions.  I think what I enjoy most is the meal plan!  Steve emailed me an initial meal plan with drop-down menus, so I can substitute food items. It gives exact serving portions and most importantly, VARIETY!   Steve also provided menus for a variety of Lincoln restaurants, so when I go out to eat, I know exactly what to order and how to tailor it to my plan.

Out of all the diets I’ve tried, the plan Max Muscle made for me has been the most realistic, so it’s pretty easy to stick too.  I’m not gonna lie, it does take a little thought and extra time when preparing a meal, or taking lunch to work, but when you’re trying to change your habits, it’s always going to take some effort.

I’ll keep you posted on my progress!

MAX MUSCLE

We’ve Got A Date… We Think
Posted: October 20, 2008

After studying a calendar, or two, and considering our work schedules, we think we’ve figured out a wedding date -- January 1, 2010. While I never imagined myself as a winter bride (I’m a WARM weather girl) it seemed to be the best for both of us.  Instead of waiting, we could actually take a honeymoon following our wedding and we both usually have January 1st off, which means we’d be able to celebrate future anniversaries together. I also like all the “1’s”the date 1-1-10… and Scott will have no excuse for forgetting our anniversary!

Now the task of figuring out a reception venue continues…

Choosing a Date
Posted Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2008

I never thought it would be so difficult to choose a wedding day!  Just with our schedules we are realizing we will have to honeymoon at a later time.

Like any bride, I want my wedding to be really special, so it’s all about LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION! …and the locations… we’ll it’s no wonder couples are engaged more than a year – the availability of ceremony sites and reception sites fills up quickly!

I also like the thought of a destination wedding with family and close friends… however my fiancé thinks it would be difficult to have our families travel a long distance.  I understand his point. I have 5 brothers and sisters, two are married and one of those two will have an infant at the time of our wedding.

Scott and I are planning to sit down tonight and pick a date, and an alternative date, plus try to figure out where we might like to have the ceremony and reception. This could be bigger than Tuesday night’s Presidential Debate!

Where was your ceremony and reception held? If you’d like to share you can send me an email

We're engaged!
Posted Monday, September 22, 2008

Thank you for sharing your well wishes with me! Your phone calls and emails have been amazing.

As I mentioned on the air, the proposal, though well planned, was a train wreck! Bear with me… I like details, so this is a long story.

Scott was actually in Vegas for a conference which he was attending with his boss, Brad. Brad’s wife, Kelly and I flew out later to make a weekend of it. (Beyond business, we are also friends).

While in Vegas, we stayed at The Hotel at Mandalay Bay. On the 65 floor of the hotel is a bottle club called The Mix, where Scott had planned to ask me to marry him. It has a great view of the Strip and the Vegas skyline… pretty cool place for a proposal… well, if you can get there. (Pics)

Our evening started off with dinner at an Italian restaurant at New York, New York with Brad and Kelly. Everything was going pretty good until about 2 bites into our meal when Kelly swallowed a scallop "the wrong way". Stuck in her throat, she tried everything to dislodge it. It didn’t work, so Brad went with Kelly to seek medical attention at the hotel/casino, from there they were told to go to the emergency room – and with them, went the ring, which was in Kelly’s purse. Believe me… this was serious stuff. I felt horrible for Kelly, but stayed back with Scott, we finished our meal, then took a tram (Brad and Kelly took the car to the emergency room) back to Mandalay Bay to see if they might make it back for our reservation at The Mix.

Of course, by this time, Scott is very agitated, which I didn’t quite understand (at this point of the night I still have no idea what is going on). Brad and Scott are trading phone calls and texts (I assumed about Kelly’s condition). I’m texting Brad, apologizing for Scott’s attitude.

Brad and Kelly reach the hospital… and she has no Identification with her – it’s at the hotel. Brad comes back to the hotel, where by this time we’ve missed our reservation at The Mix, I’m lounging in my pajamas watching TV, Scott is still complaining, and I’m telling him to relax, we can go to The Mix another night. I couldn’t figure out why Brad wasted time stopping by our suite when his wife was still at the emergency room. Now, I realize it was to drop off the ring.

I’m lying on the bed, watching TV, just relaxing, and all of the sudden Scott is on one knee. At this point, I actually say to him "What are you doing?... Now? Here?" And, yes, in my mind I’m thinking "I waited 36 years for this????" (I know… not very nice, but believe me, this was not the proposal you dream of).

My facial expression must have said it all, and only made a bad situation worse. I felt bad for him as I realized why he was so agitated, but I never really gave him an answer. From there, I went to the bathroom and cried… calling my friend Chandra (who knew what was supposed to happen). She explained to me Scott’s plans, and told me how he had been carrying this ring around with him for 2 months, just waiting for tonight… which in the end (after hearing my story) did not go at all as planned. People at home knew about his proposal plans, and would be calling me in the morning. Really, Scott had no choice but to ask before someone let the cat out of the bag.

The next morning Scott and I had a good talk and laugh about the evening, I told him "yes".

…and as for our friend Kelly and her scallop - after an emergency room "cocktail" of throat numbing stuff, she was able to dislodge that scallop and was able to join us the next night for drinks at the Mix.

Meet the newest additions to Kelly’s family:

Chewy (left) & Eddie (right)

My Cat Cheez-It has extremely long hair. He's an outdoor/garage cat, so he doesn't quite get the grooming attention he requires. Combine all that hair with the heat the humidity, and he's pretty uncomfortable...  SO... TIME FOR A HAIR CUT.

Cheez After   -    How cute is he? J If I would have taken a better picture, you would be able to see the little "whisk broom" on the end of his tail.
